Training

We aim for an excellent training of our doctoral candidates in life-and health-sciences. While the research training is the most important objective, we also want to enable future jobs outside of academia. Therefore, we foster the development of a broad skill set of our doctoral candidates.

Within the doctoral research project, the supervisor guides the exact scientific data acquisition and interpretation. Major goals are the publication of research manuscripts and finally the preparation of the doctoral thesis. The progress of the project is annually monitored by a thesis committee, which also provides scientific advice.

Every doctoral candidate develops a personalized training programme. This will for instance allow to gather experience in teaching, participation in scientific workshops and conferences or organization of such events. A diverse set of elective courses will help the doctoral candidate to acquire in addition transferable skills.

Learning outcomes

  • A thorough understanding of research data, their origin, limitations, interpretation and potentially translation into everyday applications.
  • Project -organization, -reporting and -innovation.
  • Management, leadership and inclusiveness.

Candidates with a background in physics or mathematics are also being accepted, based on their motivation and potential for interdisciplinary research.

Applicants are required to render evidence of above-average results obtained at university. The applicant’s past career must reveal his/her particular qualification for and dedication to scientific work. A physician will provide evidence of such qualification and dedication by his/her highly expert doctoral thesis in human medicine.
