Research area Molecular Disease Mechanisms

Deciphering diseases at the molecular level

About

Molecular disease mechanisms are the molecular processes that underlie the pathogenesis of diseases. By investigating these mechanisms, we can identify the specific molecular changes that are responsible for the disease, and utilise this information to develop new diagnostic tools, that can detect the disease early and monitor its progression. Additionally, this information can form the basis to design new therapeutic strategies that can target the aberrant or impaired molecules and restore the normal functioning of the cell.

To study molecular disease mechanisms, we take an interdisciplinary approach combining both experimental and computational methods that enable us to analyse the structure, function, and interactions of molecules at different levels of complexity, from single molecules to whole organisms.
