A good Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in political science or another relevant area.

English C1 (CEFR). Applicants should further indicate their level of French-language competence and provide relevant evidence where appropriate as part of their application. While French is not mandatory, it is considered an asset.

In addition to the documents required for the enrolment at the University of Luxembourg, students need to submit the following documents:

– a letter of motivation (maximum 500 words in English).
– two confidential letters of reference commenting on your aptitude to complete the proposed course of study. These letters should normally be from professors / lecturers able to evaluate your previous academic performance. Professional references may, however, be substituted where appropriate. Please have your referees send your letters directly by e-mail to the Study Programme Administrator (marie.delafont@uni.lu). If this is not possible, you may also include ‘open’ letters directly as part of your dossier.

Selection is based on the application documents. Please note that the selection process is competitive, as the number of applicants far exceeds the number of places. Therefore, applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be ranked against each other on the basis of the decisive elements listed below and only the best candidates will be offered a place.

We select candidates on the basis of their previous degree, grades, language skills, motivation letter and relevant extracurricular experience.

The ideal candidate would be a political or social scientist with a good Bachelor degree and excellent English language skills, who has a clear vision of his/her future trajectory. However, we do often receive – and accept – atypical applications from people who come from a different field of studies or who have already worked for a number of years. In those cases, it is particularly important to explain clearly why you want to change tracks and to demonstrate that you have the ability to do so.
