Since 2024, the Scienteens Lab has been expanding its activities by raising awareness among adults about the energy transition through practical workshops designed for individuals and companies. This year, the initiative received the support of the Œuvre Nationale, which even featured it in the ‘favourite projects’ section of its annual report.

Sustainability4Life consists of five complementary workshops addressing different aspects of sustainable development. Three of them, focusing on CO2, energy storage and renewable energies, are already available. Two additional workshops, focusing on the links between our forests and climate change on the one hand and on energy efficiency on the other, will be launched in the coming months. Feedback from the first participants has been very encouraging, highlighting their interest in the topic, the scientific data and the advice on how to make sustainable choices in their daily lives.

“Adults are today’s decision-makers. Change cannot wait for the next generation, it must start now,” emphasises Dr Elisabeth John, head of the Scienteens Lab. “We therefore want to provide tools to inform people, enable them to think about their energy consumption and to take their first steps towards reducing their carbon footprint.”

The workshops, which take place in small groups, use the formula that has made the Scienteens Lab so successful: A mix of short presentations, concrete examples and practical activities that encourage discussion and highlight links with everyday life. For example, participants take part in experiments on renewable energy, which involve pedalling a bit, and calculate their personal energy footprints.

From a full day spent in the Scienteens Lab to several one-hour sessions at the workplace, the format is flexible to better meet the needs of different participants. Similarly, these workshops are offered in the different languages used in the country: French, German, English and Luxembourgish. With the recruitment of a dedicated team member and the launch of new workshops, the Sustainability4Life programme will reach its full potential in 2025-26.
