Study and career opportunities
Students from the Bachelor in Mathematics acquire an enhanced understanding of the multiple roles of mathematics in the modern world. Working closely with professors and other instructors, students not only develop their analytical skills, and their ability to apply rigorous thought and argumentation, but also their creativity.
The Bachelor in Mathematics prepares students for various Master programmes: in mathematics and secondary education in particular, but also in other disciplines requiring solid mathematical knowledge. This degree is a fundamental step for careers in teaching and research, as well as in the industrial, business, and administrative sectors.

Learning Outcomes
Students undertaking the Bachelor in Mathematics (BMATH) degree programme gain solid competence in fundamental branches of mathematics. At the end of the Bachelor, students are able to:
- Understand and solve high-level problems in fundamental branches of mathematics such as analysis, algebra, geometry, and probability theory
- Solve problems in disciplines related to mathematics, such as physics, computer science, or in didactics of mathematics
- Construct and assess mathematical arguments
- Develop an appreciation for mathematical rigor and inquiry
- Communicate mathematical knowledge, in written and oral form, to expert and non-expert audiences
- Understand and write complex mathematical proofs
- Solve mathematical problems by applying relevant mathematical tools, or by devising an appropriate strategy
- Apply mathematical tools to solve problems in other branches of science, like physics or computer science
- Use mathematical concepts to model real-world problems, and to rigorously assess the relevance of a given model
- Learn new mathematical concepts independently
- Work effectively as part of a team to solve mathematics-related problems
- Work in a multilingual setting
Study perspectives
The main opportunity for graduates from the Bachelor in Mathematics is to continue with a Master. At the University of Luxembourg, we offer the Master in Mathematics, the Master in Secondary Education- Mathematics and the Master in Data Science.
