Career opportunities

Students are prepared for a career in political and cultural institutions, (museums, galleries, theatres, opera, etc.), associations and business organisations, cultural journalism, public relations in libraries, literary archives, literary agencies and literary management. Students can continue their studies at Phd level.

    Objectives

    Students expand their previous knowledge and interest in German Studies according to the 4 pillars of the Master programme:

    – German Medieval Studies
    The literature of the German Middle Ages is considered a reference framework to explore Europe as a cultural area which has historically grown together.
    – European Cultural History
    Students get a deeper understanding of what Europe is and where its origins lie. What does it mean to live in Europe today and live in a globalised world and how does this experience differ from that of previous Europeans?

    – Literary competences
    Students advance their knowledge in theories and methods of literary studies. A special focus is put on academic writing.
    – Professional orientation
    The module “Employability and Competence Development” which runs through all four semesters gives students valuable insights into various professions connected to their chose field of studies.

    Learning outcomes

    The interdisciplinary, joint Master programme promotes an international, intercultural and transdisciplinary education.

    At the end of the programme:

    • students acquire a solid academic qualification that enables them to independently reflect on cultural and literary theory
    • students are able to analyse the culture and literature of the German area in the European context
    • students (self-)confidently meet the demands of a multilingual, inter-cultural working environment
