Statistics, Data Science and Sports

Can statistics predict sports’ results? If algorithms and machine learning might help to forecast scores, Prof. Christophe Ley mainly wants to use data science to reduce sports-related health issues.
Prof. Christophe Ley is an applied mathematician working in the field of statistics/data science, with research interests in Statistical Modelling, Machine Learning, Directional Statistics, Stein’s Method and Sport analytics. Prof. Ley’s work is also strongly interdisciplinary-oriented, focusing on medicine, biology, engineering, renewable energies and psychology.
Maths is fun?

How would you have reacted if someone had said to you at school: Maths is fun? Prof. Hugo Parlier has set himself the task of making fun tasks out of complex mathematics. Whether as an analogue puzzle or as an app. It worked out so well that the puzzles made it all the way to the Dubai World’s Fair.
We learn about Hugo, his experiences of taking maths to outreach projects, and his idol, Maryam Mirzakhani.
Science Meets Communication

Mathematics is not always about calculation. But it is for sure about creativity. This is even more the case for Prof. Bruno Teheux, for whom scientific communication is another entry point into science and above all a passion.
Bruno Teheux is specialised in algebra and very active when it comes to science communication and outreach activities. He is behind numerous projects including workshops, exhibitions, seminars, books, etc.
