Training for high school teachers

The Department of Mathematics regularly organises workshops that Luxembourgish high school teachers may follow in the framework of their professional development (Formation Continue, IFEN).
The aim of our workshops is providing teachers with valuable information or simply rediscover together the beauty and joy of mathematics. We are open to wishes coming from Luxembourgish teachers concerning the format and the topics, and we thank them for their active participation and fruitful exchanges.
New didactical approaches
In these workshops we cover a variety of topics. We have presented new didactical approaches (Mathematik als Abenteuer, 2020), the possibility of doing mathematical research with pupils (2021), mathematical exhibits (the touring exhibition of the Mathematikum, 2018), selected aspects of school mathematics (gcd and lcm, 2018), and we have introduced teachers to the mathematical workshops of the Scienteens Lab and the PITT workshops.
Recently, we have also devised the format of a reading club because we present the works of various writers popularizing mathematics and distribute books to the participants. In particular, we have made a journey through the history of cryptography thanks to Simon Singh (2022), we have solved famous riddles collected by Alex Bellos (2021), and we will present the ideas of Eugenia Cheng (2024).
