The Department regularly organizes and participates in outreach activities to increase the visibility of the activities to the wider public.

Cultures of Assembly (COA)
The Cultures of Assembly project, a core undertaking of the Chaire de la Ville d’Esch on Urban Regeneration, uses the premises of a public space at Rue du Brill 24 in Esch to foster dialogue with the city’s diverse social actors.

Mapathon
Collective mapping is practiced in the Mapathon event regularly co-organised with Médecins Sans Frontières Luxembourg (MSF) and hosted at our Department. Participation is open to the general public and DGEO members contribute to the mapping process.

Solartopia at Researchers’ Days
In November 2024, DGEO members participated at the Researchers’ Days and hosted activities exploring the use of coloured photovoltaics in urban environments, featuring their interactive 3D model town, Solartopia. Participants designed their own coloured PV panels.

Allez Hopp! FNR Researchers’ Days
At the FNR event in November 2022, DGEO members organised workshops aimed at school students and local citizens. Participants could use a giant floor game Allez Hopp! and an Augmented Reality sand table to explore global impacts of climate change. The activities helped to explore what young people would like to improve in their neighborhoods.

Esch22 project Remix Place
The interdisciplinary project investigated peoples’ attachment to places in cross-border areas. It was participatory, co-generating knowledge and artwork together with citizens living and working in the cross-border agglomeration Alzette-Belval. It resulted in a hybrid exhibition and a multilingual documentary theatre play.

Esch22 project Petite Maison
The project contributed to the Esch22 event with a small house (+-100m2) on the Belval Campus, by curating a collaborative design process on circularity. Petite Maison served as a meeting point with other participants and was designed and produced by architects and engineers at UL together with local and international partners.
