Specific information for this programme

  • Required Degree

    Students applying for the Master in European Union Law and Litigation can enter directly into the second year of the Master programme (M2) with the goal of obtaining a Master degree. This requires the successful completion of four years of studies amounting to 240 ECTS, typically by having obtained a Master degree in law or equivalent studies including courses in European law. Students will be admitted upon decision of an admissions committee.

    Applicants who have successfully completed three years of studies amounting to 180 ECTS (typically a Bachelor in Law or equivalent studies) are eligible to apply for the common first year of Master studies at the University of Luxembourg (M1). It offers a variety of courses in European and international law from which students may choose in order to prepare for the specific requirements of the second year (M2).

    Applications should include supporting documents showing evidence of the necessary language skills required to follow the bilingual programme (B2 or higher in French and B2 or higher in English)

    Applications must include a cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas and transcripts, as well as supporting documents showing evidence of the necessary language skills required to follow the bilingual programme (B2 or higher in French and B2 or higher in English). Applicants should also include at least one but a maximum of two letters of recommendation from their referees.

  • Procedure

    M1 applicants are asked to indicate, in order of preference, the M2(s) they intend to pursue after the M1 year. All applicant files that the SEVE passes on to the SPDs are evaluated by a selection committee composed of the M1 SPD and the SPD from the applicant’s first choice of the Six Masters.
    Applications for the Master en Droit et contentieux de l’Union Européenne are examined by the SPD. Candidates are selected according to merit on the basis of their individual good results and in relation to the other applicants. Admission decision with the relevant Control Sheet is returned to the SEVE for final processing. The Control Sheet provides the necessary information for the SEVE to generate the appropriate written communication to the applicant.

  • Decisive Elements

    Prerequisites for M1 Students: Applicants must have achieved a minimum grade of 10/20 in the following M1 courses: European integration in principles and theory / Internal market and competition

    Applicants must demonstrate a profound interest in the EU law and litigation, as demonstrated by a Cover Letter explaining the student’s motivation for studying EU law and litigation
