Eight new professors have joined the academic staff for the winter semester:
Grégoire Danoy is Assistant Professor in Computer Science and head of the Parallel Computing and Optimisation Group (PCOG). His research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and optimisation, applied to large-scale systems ranging from drone and spacecraft swarms to high-performance computing infrastructures.
‟ I am delighted to take on this new role at the University of Luxembourg, where the international and interdisciplinary environment is an ideal foundation for ambitious research. Together with my students and colleagues, I look forward to exploring new approaches for designing intelligent systems that can address complex real-world challenges.”
Assistant professor
Prof. Marc-Fabian Körner joined the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) as a professor in Information Systems Engineering in January 2026. His research and teaching focus on harnessing digital technologies to address real-world challenges across industry and society. By recognizing the dual nature of socio-technical systems, he emphasizes that impactful digital solutions require a deep understanding not only of technological mechanisms but also of the human and organizational contexts in which these solutions are embedded. His work bridges the gap between technical innovation and effective adoption, empowering organizations to make data-driven decisions, streamline processes, and foster sustainable digital transformation.
‟ Digital technologies can only create lasting value when we understand both how they work and how people and organizations use them. True impact happens at the intersection of technology and society.”
Assistant Professor in Information Systems Engineering
Luigi Lonardo is Associate Professor in European Law at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL), where he researches on European Union constitutional law as well as the security and defence of the EU. Originally from Italy, he obtained his PhD at King’s College London (2020). He also teaches at Sciences Po in Paris.
‟ As a scholar of European Union law and foreign policy — topics that are increasingly salient in shaping our collective future — I am deeply honoured and enthusiastic to join Uni.lu. I look forward to contributing to making the Luxembourg Centre for European Law a vibrant hub for research.”
Associate professor in European Law
Carol Martinez Luna is Assistant Professor in Perception and Robotics and Deputy Head of the Space Robotics research group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT). She leads research on intelligent robotic manipulation, integrating multi-modal perception (vision and touch), robot learning, and on-ground testing. Her work also explores mechanical intelligence and gecko-inspired interfaces for robust, adaptable interactions in space.
‟ It is very rewarding to be part of the interdisciplinary and multicultural environment of the SnT at the University of Luxembourg. I am happy to contribute to the University’s teaching and research activities in robotics, providing students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills, while mentoring researchers to advance the next generation of intelligent robotic systems for space.”
Assistant professor
Sarah Oberbichler is Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining in Digital History at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH). Her research focuses on media studies, environmental history, migration history, and critical AI studies.
‟ Being part of C²DH at the University of Luxembourg has been a dream of mine for many years. The work environment is highly supportive and fosters inspiring research ideas and innovative projects.”
Assistant professor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining in Digital History
Rui Pedro Pereira de Almeida is Assistant Professor in Clinical Imaging and Study Director of the Bachelor in Health Sciences – Medical Technical Radiology Assistant. His work is driven by a strong commitment to advancing medical imaging education and clinical practice, with particular interests in quality management, radiation protection and patient safety.
‟ It is a great privilege to contribute to the launch of this new Bachelor programme in Luxembourg and to help educate the future radiographers of the country in such an innovative environment, where advanced simulation facilities, a collaborative academic culture, and a strong commitment to excellence create outstanding conditions for research and high-quality teaching and student learning.”
Assistant professor in Clinical Imaging
Katharina Schwarz joined Uni.lu in November 2025 as an Associate Professor in Social Psychology. She studies how the experience of agency emerges in human agents and impacts their behavioural choices, with a special focus on sustainability behaviour. Specifically, she aims to find out which aspects or strategies might motivate individuals and social groups to engage in pro-environmental behaviour.
‟ I have rarely encountered an academic atmosphere that is so open to cooperation across different scientific fields. For anyone interested in working on larger-scale issues, this is the perfect mindset and foundation for truly interdisciplinary work. I am happy to be able to contribute to the common goal of sustainable development at the University of Luxembourg via my respective work in research and teaching.”
Associate professor in Social Psychology
Christian Wille has been promoted to Assistant Professor in Cultural Border Studies after ten years of establishing the UniGR-Center for Border Studies (UniGR-CBS) at the University of Luxembourg in collaboration with five partner universities in France, Belgium, and Germany. He is Head of UniGR-CBS and specializes in border research from a cultural studies perspective. His work focuses on fundamental research and everyday culture, and he teaches in the trinational Master’s programme in Border Studies.
