Assist. Prof Marc-Fabian KOERNER

Marc-Fabian Körner is an Assistant Professor in Information Systems Engineering with the Digital Financial Services and Cross-Organisational Digital Transformations (FINATRAX) research group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), University of Luxembourg.

In his research, Prof. Körner focuses on the transformative potential and the socio-technical management of emerging digital technologies – such as artificial intelligence, digital identities, and distributed ledger technologies – within organizations and across complex ecosystems. His work addresses topics including (cross-)organizational data governance, the sovereign digitalization of critical infrastructures, and the design of trustworthy digital ecosystems.

Prof. Körner regularly teaches classes on Information Systems Research, Smart Energy Systems, and Business and Information Systems Engineering. Moreover, he supervises several PhD candidates.

He leads several publicly funded research projects and collaborative partnerships with industry as well as public bodies, translating cutting-edge research into applicable solutions with real-world impact. Insights from these projects directly inform both his teaching and his research.

Prof. Körner regularly publishes his award-winning research in leading international journals and presents his work at major international conferences. He maintains close research collaborations with institutions such as the University of Arkansas (USA), the University of Cambridge (UK), and the University of Bayreuth (Germany). His active engagement in the academic community – as a Special Issue Editor, Associate Editor, Track Chair, and reviewer for journals and conferences – has been recognized with multiple awards.

Before joining the University of Luxembourg, Prof. Körner was a research group leader at the FIM Research Institute for Information Management, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bayreuth, and a project manager at the Branch Business and Information Systems Engineering of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (Fraunhofer FIT). In 2025, he was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Arkansas.

He earned his PhD in Information Systems (summa cum laude) from the University of Bayreuth with a dissertation on the transformative potential of information systems in complex energy systems. He previously studied economics and business administration, with a minor in philosophy, at the Universities of Erfurt and Bayreuth and at EDHEC Business School.
