History beyond the walls of academia

The C²DH aims to take history beyond the academic confines of the University and to bring innovation to the field with its focus on digital public history.

What we stand for

Like those components of a medicine that produce the desired effect, our ACTIVE principles largely affect the ways in which we practice and reflect upon public history. They provide a summary of what the Public History and Outreach (PHO) Research Group at the C²DH stands for and what defines its work across projects and disciplines.

Telling history in a “shared authority”-approach

Citizen science & public engagement

Public history initiatives at the centre reflect a democratisation-based approach to historical scholarship that questions authority and explores possibilities for critical engagement with members of the public.

Sharing authority is a hallmark of our approach. Public participation can enhance our understanding of the past.”
