Book a Librarian (BaL)

Benefit from a personal interview with a librarian to assist you in your research

The “Book a Librarian” (BaL) service is a personalised reference service for members of the University of Luxembourg offered by the librarians in the Luxembourg Learning Centre. As a Bachelor, Master or PhD student, are you struggling to define your research question for an assignment, dissertation or thesis? Are you a member of staff who would like to consult resources specific to your subject but don’t know where to find them? Or are you lost in a maze of bibliographic references and keen to learn how to use a bibliography management tool? Feel free to contact the librarians via and describe your request and your needs. You will then be able to make an appointment with a librarian in a dedicated space in the LLC for some more targeted advice.

  • Via its BaL service, the
    library offers:

    • Explanations on how to use the online catalogue.
    • General literature searches and advice on how to access resources.
    • Subject-specific literature searches (introduction to specific databases).
  • The service does not include:

    • Advice or data for medical, legal, financial, business or personal needs (contracts, agreements, enrolments, travel, online purchases).
    • Help to set up or install software on your personal devices.
    • Writing your references or correcting your written work.

  • Who?

    The BaL service is only available to members of the University of Luxembourg.

  • How many users?

    Appointments can be made for up to three people at a time. If the group is larger, the interested users can contact to set up a group training course.

  • Contacting the librarians

    Requests must be submitted via

    Users will be asked to provide any necessary personal information as well as any relevant information needed to prepare the appointment.

    We are committed to getting back to users within three working days.

  • When?

    Appointments can be made from Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 17.00 (only on days when the library is open).

    The user must confirm the proposed date at least 48 hours in advance. If a confirmed appointment cannot be kept, the user must cancel the appointment in advance.

    Appointments may last no longer than 60 minutes.
    Only one appointment may be made per week per user.

  • Where?

    Users will be asked to arrive on time at the Meeting Point in the Welcome Zone of the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC).

    Online appointments are also possible via Microsoft Teams.
