    This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Sunflower Seeds ASBL. The overarching objective of this institution based in Luxembourg is to “empower women to exercise their leadership while contributing to a more sustainable world, respectful of human beings and the environment

  • Eligibility criteria

    • Only available for Master’s programmes that run their full two-year programme in Luxembourg
    • Excellent academic performance during undergraduate studies
    • Commitment to selecting a sustainability‑related master’s thesis topic
    • Applicants must not be beneficiaries of Luxembourg’s State Financial Aid for Higher Education (formerly CEDIES)

    1 student

  • Duration

    2 years (standard duration of the Master’s degree)

  • Amount

    €12 500 per student, per academic year, for up to two years.

  • Accommodation

    Student housing is not by default guaranteed for scholarships recipients.

    Students are required to apply for accommodation in a timely manner and carefully follow the provided instructions and deadlines in the accommodation section.

  • Application procedure

    Application deadline for the Fernand Spirckel Scholarship: 31 May 2026

    1. Apply for the Master’s programme:

    First, we invite you to consult the admission requirements specified on the webpage of the Master programme you are interested in to ensure that your application is complete. (to be completed before 31 May)

    You should then submit your Master’s application and all the required documents via our online admissions portal.

    2. Evaluation of your Master’s application:

    Once your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the programme director of the selected Master’s programme.

    If the Programme Director considers that your application meets the required criteria of excellence, you will receive a notification inviting you to apply for the excellence scholarship separately. The link to submit your scholarship application will be included in this notification.

    3. Scholarship application:

    For your online scholarship application you will need to:

    • Complete the dedicated online form;
    • Attach a personal statement outlining your reasons for applying and presenting your strengths;
    • Attach two academic recommendation letters.

    Once you have submitted your scholarship application, it will be evaluated.

    We encourage you to follow these steps carefully to ensure that your application is managed efficiently.

  • Selection procedure

    Selection criteria:

    • Quality of academic performance
    • Originality of your personal statement and strengths of your candidacy.
    • The candidate will need to demonstrate how their social needs align with the scholarship
    • Demonstrate a sense for leadership

    The selection process involves an internal evaluation procedure.

    Finalists should be notified by June 2026 and they will need to confirm acceptance of the scholarship within three working days.

    All applicants will receive a final response.

    Upon arrival at the University of Luxembourg in September 2026, scholarship recipients will sign a Scholarship Agreement, including a sworn declaration accepting the terms and conditions of the Sunflower Seeds ASBL Scholarship.
