Description Institute
MnhnL is a cultural institute providing a 1000 qm large exhibition on natural history, educational space, a research center and collection facilities. The museum deals with collections, research projects and knowledge transfer in the domain of natural history and natural sciences, especially earth and life
sciences. We communicate with different publics by means of exhibitions and catalogues, scientific publications and talks, but also by workshops, events like the Science Festival, and by networking. The “Médiation et développement du public” department is dedicated to engaging with diverse audiences through tailored hands-on workshops for school classes or public events like lectures, conferences, interactive sessions and specialized workshops or other cultural activities. Additionally, the department coordinates the Science Festival, the biggest science fair in Luxembourg, hosting over 60 scientific workshops and bringing together 400 science educators to share their passion with over 11,000 visitors.
List of possible internships
This internship will give you the possibility to showcase your own research (field) to a diverse audience in the context of the museum’s exhibition. After an introductory overview to the museum’s departments and their activities as well as the currently running exhibitions, you will identify potential contact points between your own research (field) and the exhibition. The idea is to develop a suitable activity/presentation which can be shown to the visitors of the museum, and which shows state-of-the-art research projects within the context of natural history as such. The aim is to build bridges between the museum, external (potentially young) researchers and the public, and thus creating a place of exchange.
Show your own research by developing a hands-on science activity/workshop for an event. Under the supervision of your internship host, you will develop a hands-on activity about your research (field) of 10-30 minutes for a general audience. You will have to animate it during at least two events, for instance:
- the Museum Days (18/19 May 2024)
- the Naturmusée Fest (15 September 2024)
- the Nuits des Musées (12 October)
- Moving Labs Festival (adult audience, 15 November 2024)
- the Science Festival (November 2025)
- the Researchers Day’s (November 2026)
