Biotech Support
The Biotech Support Team gathers specialists with different skills to optimise and coordinate the day-to-day laboratory operations, freeing the LCSB researchers to focus on their work. Moreover, the team supports the development of the centre by driving the planning of the future facilities.

- The Instrument Care team supports the researchers in all aspects of laboratory equipment to ensure a solid foundation for their scientific experiments.
- Proper equipment lifecycle management is a critical element for any laboratory. Prior to the installation of new equipment or the relocation an equipment, the team works with various internal stakeholders, such as the IT department, infrastructure department and safety office, to ensure that all technical and safety installation requirements are met.
- The team coordinates with the supplier, organising the shipments, installation, initial training, inventory and documentation.
- Once installed, the Instrument Care team helps to keep the equipment in top condition by organising all on-site interventions from the suppliers and manufacturers of the scientific equipment, including calibrations, inspections, preventive and curative maintenance visits, repairs and trainings.
- In addition, the Instrument Care team is able to salvage many pieces of laboratory equipment by carrying out its own repair work.
- The team is also responsible for monitoring all critical instrument parameters. The Instrument Care team’s services are optimised to increase the longevity of each piece of equipment while reducing downtime and protecting the quality of research results.

The Laboratory Safety team supports the LCSB and its researchers with expertise on laboratory (bio-)safety issues related to life sciences. The team works with the laboratory staff, central services, the Instrument Care team, the Infrastructure team, the logistics team, and all other stakeholders to contribute to the development of a culture of safety.
The team provides measures and solutions to ensure a safe laboratory environment. To achieve its mission, the team assesses the safety risks of existing situations or new projects and identifies and prioritises preventive and corrective actions to improve safety. This team manages the appropriate protective equipment and safety-related materials and it develops the Emergency Response Plan.
It prepares and organises safety training and manages restricted access to laboratory areas. The Laboratory Safety team also supports the central safety and security office in ensuring legal compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.

The Laboratory Quality team promotes good research practices and works closely with the R3 (Responsible and Reproducible Research) team to generate reliable and publishable data, improve data traceability and documentation.
The team develops and manages the electronic laboratory notebook and the LCSB training platform (DOCEBO), supports the standardisation of laboratory procedures, organises the aseptic technique testing, coordinates the publication check and contributes to the pre-publication check.
The team develops and coordinates green initiatives in the laboratories, such as the freezer challenges or the my green lab certification. They also carry out various internal quality controls, such as laboratory water testing and hygiene monitoring.

The Infrastructure team works closely with the central services to develop new facilities and adapt existing infrastructure to meet user requirements and technical specifications. From office space to complex automation systems, clean rooms, and bio-exclusion areas – all aspects are followed from basic concept to final commissioning.
In addition to this core activity, the Infrastructure team liaises with the central services on a daily basis to track building maintenance and organise infrastructure business continuity plans.
