Advancing medicine through research

Medical research at the Department of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (DHML) is grounded in an integrated approach that connects clinical practice, scientific inquiry, and medical education. Within a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, research activities contribute to advancing knowledge and patient care while supporting the continuous development of healthcare professionals.

Our practice-based research environment

Much of our work is led by clinicians and anchored in clinical practice, where research questions arise directly from patient care and are taken forward within the university setting. This creates a direct relationship between clinical experience and scientific work, allowing our researchers to address the most pressing challenges in healthcare.

Within this context, research emerges from a variety of clinical questions, teaching needs, and evolving practices rather than a predefined thematic structure. This supports a research environment that accommodates both established areas of work and emerging initiatives, while remaining closely connected to care settings. Situated in Luxembourg, at the crossroads of European healthcare systems, our work is also embedded in cross-border clinical and academic collaborations.
