Research Group Experimental Soft Matter Physics

Intriguing, beautiful, powerful

We study the spontaneous appearance of order in liquid crystals, polymers, colloids and their combinations, giving rise to unique and peculiar behaviours.

Soft Matter Physics

From fundamental physics to broad collaborations

Soft matter responds strongly to small stimuli. Examples from our research are periodically ordered rubbers that change color across the visible spectrum when you strain them, uniform liquids that separate into ordered and disordered regions in response to subtle composition variations, or shells of liquid crystal that completely rearrange internally in response to a small temperature change.
