Dr. Elizabeth MARTIN JEFREMOVAS

Elizabeth Martín Jefremovas is a Postdoctoral MSCA-YIA fellow in the Nanomagnetism group led by Professor Andreas Michels, in the Department Physics and Materials Science at the University of Luxembourg,

Her research is focused on magnetic nanoparticles, with the key goal of understanding magnetic disorder and exploit its potentialities to push the current limits of magnetic hyperthermia in cancer treatments. Her research project, “HYPUSH”,  is part of the Young International Academics (YIA) Postdoctoral program, an European postdoctoral programme (Marie Sklodowska Curie COFUND action) hosted by the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS).

Elizabeth has taught “Physics II” at the “Industrial Technology Engineering Bachelor degree”, University of Cantabria, Spain, and supervised 3 undergraduate students, both at the University of Cantabria and Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, in Germany.

Active since 2019 in dissemination activities promoting science.

In 2021, Elizabeth launched, together with Dr. Lucía Gandarias, a Science Dissemination Podcast Program, “La Mar de Ciencia”, releasing chapters discussing about Biology and Physics facts, easy to grasp for the broad audience, every second week. The Program was selected as top science program in 2022 by Ivoox Editors.

Her Thesis “Spin dynamics in magnetic nanoparticles” has received 3 “Best PhD” prizes from the IEEE Magnetics Society (Spanish Chapter); the “Consejo Social” (Best Thesis in Mathematics and Physics); and the University of Cantabria (“Premio Extraordinario de doctorado 2021”).

In 2022, she was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for her project “3DSKY”.

Between 2022 and 2024, she was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany.

In 2024, she joined the University of Luxembourg as a YIA postdoctoral fellow.

Dr. Elizabeth Martín Jefremovas received her Bachelor in Physics at the University of Cantabria in 2017 and her Master in “Nanophysics and Advanced Materials” at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 2018, with a special distinction for best academic records, competing with all Bachelors and Masters offered at the UCM.

In 2021, she earned her PhD at the University of Cantabria, with Summa Cum Laude and best PhD Prize (Premio Extraordinario).
