Cultural programme
The accepted participants will receive by email (in due time) a survey where they can indicate their preference for the organized excursions on the Wednesday afternoon:
- BLAST FURNACE: . We will explore the industrial heritage of Campus Belval, climbing to the top of the impressive Blast Furnaces (Hauts Fourneaux) and enjoying a spectacular view. This visit is combined with a tour of Cité des Sciences.
- LUXEMBOURG CITY: We will visit the historical center of Luxembourg City, that is a UNESCO cultural heritage.
- The participants are encouraged, if they have the occasion for it, to independently explore Luxembourg City. We signal that the MUDAM contemporary art museum is free Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:00.
- Luxembourg has various castles, and we recommend visiting the Vianden Castle: from Belval one may travel by train to the Vianden train station and then either walk 1.3km or take a bus to the castle (warning: the last entry to the castle is at 17:30).
- The city of Esch is walking distance from Belval (2.5km), and it can be reached by walking on the longest cycle bridge in Europe with a beautiful view of the forest.
- We also signal that there is a Science Center in Differdange, which can be reached by train from Belval (it’s 250m from the train station).
- The festival Fête des Hauts Fourneaux takes place on Campus Belval, Friday 4 to Sunday 6 July (this is independent of the conference).
- In general, there are many touristic attractions in Luxembourg: visit Luxembourg.
Please note that all public transport within Luxembourg is free of charge, including trains (second-class), buses, and the tram in Luxembourg City.
