Career opportunities

The Master programme prepares for a career in education, digital media analysis, diversity management, cultural mediation, communication, human resources, translation or journalism. Students can also continue their studies at PhD level in disciplines such as sociolinguistics, education, anthropology or sociology.

    Objectives

    The programme combines content-oriented and methodological classes and supports students in developing their own personal research projects.

    The programme focuses on five areas:
    – Methodological approaches: students study different qualitative research approaches, such as ethnography, ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, etc. Eventually they are capable of putting these methodological tools to work in their own research projects.
    -Multilingualism/multiculturalism and education: students learn to master fundamental concepts related to research themes such as language acquisition

    in bilingual or plurilingual settings, diversity management, didactics of multilingualism
    – Multilingualism/multiculturalism and work: students acquire the knowledge to analyse communication in different multilingual and multicultural work settings
    – Communication and digital media: Students develop expertise in the field of digital literacy, ICTs and multilingual learning platforms.

    Learning outcomes

    At the end of the programme, students will

    • be familiarised with scientific literature and foundational concepts in multilingualism and multiculturalism related to sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, education, epistemology, sociology, digital literacy, etc.
    • have developed detailed knowledge of the necessary methodological tools, with special emphasis on qualitative research methods
    • have acquired independent research competences
    • be able to act as responsible members of society, in relation with issues of multilingualism and multiculturalism.
