Daniela BERTOLI

Daniela BERTOLI is a Research and Development Specialist at the Department of Education and Social Work

Daniela is interested in studying and documenting teaching and learning in settings where open-ended, inquiry-based, and child-centered approaches take center stage. She presented her work “Storytelling and Technology as Tools for Anti-Racist Teaching” at the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) annual convention (USA), in 2021.  Currently, Daniela contributes to SciTeach Center’s mission to advance high-quality science teaching in primary schools in Luxembourg.

With her colleagues from the SciTeach Center, Daniela co-designed and co-teaches BScE-161: Research-Based Teaching and Learning in the Natural Sciences, a course at the Bachelor of Education Sciences program.

Daniela has been awarded the G. Coyle Award; the Zankel Fellowship; the E. Z. Lynch Scholarship; the Runyan Scholarship; the Teachers College Scholarship; the Christie Krase Scholarship; the American Montessori Society Living Legacy Alice Renton Award; and the Santa Catarina State Scholarship.

Before joining the University of Luxembourg, Daniela worked in projects to support teacher education as a Professional Development Coach and as a Research Associate at Teachers College, Columbia University (USA). Previously, her extensive experience as an early childhood educator includes teaching in Montessori, international (IB/PYP), Reggio-inspired, and public schools in the USA and Brazil. She also taught in school libraries, spearheading successful storytelling programs,  and in language institutes, teaching English and Portuguese as second languages. 

Daniela earned a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has also completed studies in the art of storytelling, Montessori teaching, teaching English as a second language, and library administration.
