In many schools today, pupils already use artificial intelligence (AI) to help with homework or prepare for tests, teachers rely on it to differentiate instruction or design personalised learning materials. But what do these rapidly expanding practices mean for the education system?
Gilbert Busana, Director of the Bachelor en Sciences de l’Education at the University of Luxembourg, explains how AI can open new learning opportunities while presenting challenges.
From supporting homework and research to fostering critical thinking, Mr Busana emphasizes the importance of teaching students to use AI thoughtfully, as a tool to enhance learning rather than replace independent thinking. He also discusses how teachers’ roles are evolving in a digital age, shifting from knowledge transmitters to learning coaches.
‟ Today, it is difficult to run a school if these topics are ignored. Doing so is not only a disservice to teachers themselves, but also to the children they are responsible for.”
