Charting the MEDIACentre odyssey: a journey of innovation and collaboration

From humble beginnings to cutting-edge facilities, discover the MEDIACentre’s transformative journey, marked by milestones, pioneering projects, collaborative endeavors and a steadfast commitment.
Let’s start from the beginning

Approved by the Faculty council in 2013, the first facilities are installed and allowed first productions. A dry hire system for cameras, audio-recorders and other accessories for students and teaching staff “do-it-yourself” projects was developed.
First “proofs of concept” were successfully realised – live broadcasts of lectures, new e-learning concepts e.g. bigbluebutton in Moodle. In the context of the Lab-facilities of the faculty, the first MEDIALab was planned as a twin and backup “solution” of the User Lab on the new Belval campus. The same “on the edge” technology was chosen and created synergies for more complex scientific and practical projects.

The close collaboration with researchers was always key to a better understanding of science communication.
In 2015 the concept work for the new facilities in the basement started, planned once the library would have moved out into the new LLC.
A provisional studio was created in the MSH at Belval Campus. The MEDIACentre team was reinforced by new colleagues coming from CVCE in 2016.
In 2018 the first previsionary move to the final location was successfully finalised with the implementation of dedicated Post-Production facilities and a first Green-Screen studio where many interesting projects were realised (Copernicus Satellite MOOC, TEDx etc.) 2020 pandemic … due to the expertise in E-Learning and Audiovisual concepts of the team members, the MC played an important role in the development and implementation of hybrid-teaching concepts into University’s digital teaching strategy.

2022 Works of the new studios started in July 2022 and were finalised end of 2023 January 2024: last works for the second phase of the final move are done, move and re-unification with the faculty’s communication team and the local IT-Support team in the basement of the MSH building symbolise a new era of the MEDIACentre in its final location.
