Study Programmes Master in Architecture

Career opportunities

The Master in Architecture provides students with relevant skills in research and design in the field of architecture and urbanism. By deepening knowledge acquired during their Bachelor studies and providing tools to master complex design and research tasks, the Master in Architecture prepares students for their role as critical and engaged actors in the production of the built and unbuilt environment.

    Objectives

The programme centres around the question of the socio-ecological transition, aiming at repairing human and natural habitats through design.

From relationships between built and non-built environments, human and non-human communities, new and existing contexts, to questions of land ownership, governance, resource management, and community-building, architecture and urban design need to be understood as urgent political projects. Within the built environment disciplines, there are opportunities to shift our ways of working towards a social and environmental emancipatory practice.

In addressing these urgencies, the Master in Architecture provides research and pedagogical tools for a critical approach to architecture and urbanism, positioning repair, maintenance, and care as core values of not only design projects and processes, but also the profession itself.

    Learning outcomes

At the end of the programme, students will have gained the abilities and skills to:

    • understand the production of the built environment in its social, political, cultural, and environmental complexities
    • work in interdisciplinary teams and develop a multidisciplinary approach to research and design
    • manage complex scientific investigation and design project tasks
    • communicate research and design across different media
    • formulate their critical position vis-Ă -vis an object of study or design
    • evaluate their research and design abilities as well as those of the teaching staff, team members, and external contributors to engage in critical debate, both oral and written
