The University of Luxembourg’s Doctoral School of Law welcomes Professor Eleftheria Neframi as its new Head. Prof. Neframi, full professor within the Department of Law, specialises in European Union (EU) Law focusing particularly on the scope and application of fundamental principles that regulate the interaction of legal orders within the EU, its external action, as well as within its system of legal remedies.
Professor Neframi joined the University of Luxembourg in 2012, having previously been a full professor (professeure agrégée since 2004) at the University Sorbonne Paris Cité. She studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and at the Université Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne and Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas, where she also obtained her doctoral degree.
At the University of Luxembourg, Prof. Neframi is coordinator of the FNR-funded Doctoral Training Unit DTU GREITMA, and has been Study Programme Director for the Master in European Union Law and Litigation since 2015.
“I am honoured to have been appointed Head of the Doctoral School of Law,” says Prof. Neframi. “Doctoral education in Law at the University of Luxembourg offers a unique opportunity to develop research excellence at the intersection of diverse academic traditions. I am committed to fostering an enriching and inspiring academic environment for our PhD candidates, which includes promoting a culture of collaboration, academic integrity, and well-being across our community. The integration of the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) into the University is an important step forward in our collective pursuit of excellence in legal research.”
Professor Neframi takes over the role from Professor Joana Mendes, who joined the LCEL in April 2025 after a decade at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, including five years spent as Head of the Doctoral School of Law.
