Admissions

Proof of language skills

All applicants must demonstrate the required level of competence in all teaching languages of their chosen programme at the University of Luxembourg. The required language skills for each programme are listed on the dedicated programme web page, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If multiple languages are listed on the programme web page, this indicates that the programme is multilingual, and applicants must provide proof of competence in all listed languages, unless stated otherwise.

Applicants must demonstrate their language skills in one or more of the following ways:

For students with a secondary school diploma obtained in Luxembourg less than 5 years ago:

Note

Students for whom two languages are the official administrative languages of their country and who have completed their entire education in one of these languages may be exempt from providing a language certificate for the language that served as the medium of instruction and examination for their most recent diploma (provided the diploma was obtained within the last two years). A language certificate will, however, be required for the second language if it is also necessary for admission to any of our programmes.

Example:

  • Canadian applicants from Quebec having followed their studies in French would require a language certificate for a Master’s degree taught in English
  • Cameroonian applicants having followed their studies in English would require a language certificate for a Master’s degree taught in French

Disclaimer
Study programmes may have specific prerequisites about language test certificates and minimum levels. For more details, please refer to the dedicated web page for each study programme.

Applicants who do not meet the required language level for all teaching languages before the application deadline are not eligible for admission in that application cycle.
