The challenge and promise of data

Digital History

The Digital History & Historiography team embraces the digital turn as offering opportunities for criticism and the development of new methods and tools.

Blurring the lines between disciplines

Digital history requires a multidisciplinary approach in which specialists work closely together rather than remaining enclosed in separate ivory towers. How does this collaboration between humanities and computer science work in practice? And does this new approach to academic subjects influence historians’ thought processes and means of expression?

As historians work with digital and digitised sources in unprecedented quantity, we need new ways to ensure authenticity and transparency in our research.”
