In 2015, Sergio worked as a Developer and Commissioning Engineer at Etechnik at Montan Universität Leoben, Austria, as part of his Bachelor’s thesis. He designed and commissioned electrical systems, with a particular focus on lithium-ion batteries.
In 2017, he joined S&T in Linz, Austria, as a Research and Development Engineer for his Master’s thesis. His work centred on microgrids, electric vehicles, and distributed energy resources, including batteries, photovoltaic systems, and wind generation.
In 2018, he joined the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Vienna as a Junior Researcher in the Electrical Energy Systems group. He contributed to European smart grid projects, such as InterFlex and InteGrid, focusing on system architecture, scalability, and ICT communication for smart grids. Over time, he progressed to the role of Research Engineer and Project Manager, contributing to several European initiatives and publishing his work in peer-reviewed journals.
In 2020, Sergio moved to Luxembourg to pursue a PhD at SnT. His doctoral research focused on market-based approaches to flexibility procurement, advanced forecasting, and the development of digital platforms for energy automation.
Since 2023, he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at SnT, University of Luxembourg, where he continues his research on smart grids, energy digitalisation, and flexibility markets.
