About
The D2ET NCER project aims to accelerate Luxembourg’s energy transition by co-creating a comprehensive, data-driven digital twin of the national multi-carrier energy system. This virtual platform integrates real-time data, predictive analytics, and stakeholder input to simulate and optimise energy scenarios, supporting strategic decisions on cost-effectiveness, emission reduction, and social acceptability. Led by LIST, LISER, and SnT, D2ET unites cross-disciplinary expertise. LIST leads on digital twins and infrastructure modelling. LISER is working on social acceptability and decision-making. SnT, in particular the FINATRAX team, drives research on energy market design and regulation (WP3), integrates grid and user incentives (WP4), and the UBIX and SerVal teams creates trustworthy AI-driven forecasting models for energy demand and generation (WP8). Together, these contributions enable dynamic pricing, peer-to-peer energy trading, and reliable short- to long-term predictions all integrated into the digital twin to support efficient, secure, and equitable energy planning. The project also addresses data privacy, regulatory compliance, and environmental sustainability, ensuring responsible innovation. By involving stakeholders, including grid operators like CREOS and ENCEVO from the outset, D2ET ensures practical relevance and societal alignment. A key goal is to demonstrate core components at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6-7 or higher, proving their functionality in real-world conditions. This positions Luxembourg as a leader in smart energy governance, and reates a replicable model for other regions. D2ET fosters research excellence, tech transfer, and education through collaboration among the different national and international stakeholders. Ultimately, the project delivers a scalable, secure, and user-centred digital platform to guide a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient energy future.
