International Library Loans
Document Delivery Service (DDS)
Since 1 March 2023, members of the University of Luxembourg can use the DDS to submit a request to consult any document that is not part of the LLC’s collections or available electronically in the a-z.lu catalogue.
- Books are sent by other libraries located abroad and are loaned for a limited period.
- Articles and book chapters are provided as print copies by other libraries.
- Log in to your user account on a-z.lu.
- Check that the document is not available at the LLC or in the catalogue.
- Click on ILL (interlibrary loan) at the top of the catalogue home page.
- Fill in the request form.
- A librarian will process your request as quickly as possible. You will be informed about the availability of the document by email.
You need to be registered with the LLC to submit a DDS request.
Articles and book chapters are generally provided within 48 hours.
Books are delivered within 1 to 6 weeks (depending on the lending library and how far away it is).
Your request may have to be cancelled if it falls into one of the following categories:
- document cannot be found or supplied by another library
- document published very recently (this year)
- document dating from before 1900
- entire volume of a periodical
- reference book

Articles or book chapters
Students will be asked to collect their documents in paper form from a librarian at the Welcome Zone of the LLC from Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:00.
Staff members will receive their documents in paper form by internal mail.
The loan period for books is 3 weeks and they must be returned by the due date. Users can ask for an extension by sending an email to askalibrarian@uni.lu. The LLC cannot guarantee that the loan period will be renewed, as it depends on the terms of the lending library.
The DDS is a service provided free of charge by the LLC to members of the University of Luxembourg.
