Library Loans/Book Taxi
How to borrow and return documents
Once you have registered with the LLC, you can borrow items. Loan conditions differ depending on whether you are an internal user (University students and staff) or an external user. Internal users based full-time on Kirchberg, Weicker or Limpertsberg Campus are entitled to make use of the Book Taxi service.
Most books in the library are freely accessible and can be borrowed free of charge. Items in storage (CDs and DVDs) can also be borrowed; they can be reserved via your a-z.lu account. However, books marked with a red label (e.g. reference works and books on course reading lists) and special collections (e.g. dissertations and PhD theses, the UNI and BEI collections, etc.) cannot be borrowed.

for external users
No access (unless registered with the BnL).
Simply click on “Reservation” in the a-z.lu catalogue.
Two types of reservation are available and can be made directly through the a-z.lu catalogue:
- You can reserve new books that have been ordered. You will be informed by email when a new book is available to borrow from the library.
- You can reserve books that have already been taken out by another user. You will be informed by email when the book has been returned to the library.
Every user has an account on a-z.lu.
You can consult this account to keep track of your current library loans.
You can easily log in to your user account to renew your borrowed items at any time up to the scheduled return date.
You will receive an email informing you whether the renewal has been granted. For books, a further 3 months (University of Luxembourg members) / 14 days (external users) will be granted from the date of the renewal request. For graphic novels, DVDs and CDs, a further 14 days will be granted from the date of the renewal request.
Items cannot be renewed if they have been reserved by another user.
Recalls are a way of giving all users fair access to resources. Someone else may request an item that you have out on loan. If this happens you will receive a recall notice by email. You will have 14 days to return a recalled item.
If you wish to borrow a book that is already out on loan, make sure you request it on a-z.lu!
If a user is late in returning borrowed items from the library, their user account will be blocked for loans, extensions, and reservations as of the first day of delay.
Moreover, access to electronic resources through a-z.lu and international loan requests will be blocked after the fourth recall.
Their user account will be unblocked as soon as they return the loans.

What is the Book Taxi service?
The Book Taxi service enables you to reserve and borrow books from the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) without having to go to Belval in person – you can simply ask for the books to be transferred to Kirchberg, Weicker or Limpertsberg.
Collection points with lockers can be found in the entrance hall of the central building on the Kirchberg and Weicker sites, and in the entrance hall of the “Bâtiment des Sciences” on the Limpertsberg site.
Book Taxi is available for PhD students, staff and students based full-time on Kirchberg, Weicker or Limpertsberg Campus.]
-
What are the conditions for using the Book Taxi service?
- You must be registered at the LLC;
- You must be a PhD student, staff member or student based full-time on Kirchberg, Weicker or Limpertsberg Campus. Students with lectures on several campuses or based full-time on Belval Campus can pick up their reserved items directly at the LLC.
-
How does it work?
- On a-z.lu, find the book that interests you and reserve it, selecting your preferred campus pick-up point: Kirchberg, Weicker or Limpertsberg.
- Your book is transferred to the requested campus
- An email is sent to inform you when the book is available in the lockers at the pick-up point*.
- To collect your book, open the locker indicated in the email by entering the last 4 digits of your reader number (on the back of your library card)
*Books will stay in the lockers for 7 days. If you do not pick up your reserved books within this period, they will be sent back to the LLC and made available to other users again.
Only books available on loan can be delivered. Items that are only available for consultation on site, such as dissertations, theses and journals, must be consulted at the Luxembourg Learning Centre.

How do I return my books?
There is a return box near the lockers. After you have returned your books to the box, it takes 1 to 2 days for them to be removed from your user account.
