Disability support
The Learning Support and Disability team is composed of specialist advisers who provide support, guidance and information to current and prospective students, doctoral candidates and staff regarding long-term medical or mental health conditions, specific learning disorders (SpLD) or other additional learning needs.
Our advisers offer confidential, one-to-one appointments, focusing on assessing individual needs and arranging appropriate support throughout the course of study. In addition, they work collaboratively with colleagues across the University to promote and strengthen inclusion and accessibility at the University of Luxembourg.
What is a disability?
Disability includes long-term physical, mental, sensory, intellectual or health-related conditions. Some are visible, while others are not, such as dyslexia, anxiety, chronic illness or ADHD. What really matters is how the condition affects your learning experience and environment.
Types of Disability
Some disabilities are easy to see, while others are less visible and in some cases, they can be both depending on the situation. Below are some common examples, though this list is not exhaustive:
- Specific learning disorder
- Neurodiversity
- Long-term medical conditions
- Mental health conditions
- Physical impairment
- Hearing impairments
- Visual impairments
- Temporary conditions
What are considered diverse needs?
There are many reasons you may need support to learn, other than disabilities or learning difficulties. It can be related to any factors affecting how you learn, such as students who have followed a different curriculum or whose knowledge and skills show possible gaps, personal circumstances, social and emotional factors, or simply different learning styles.
