Interdisciplinary Centre Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL)

Guest programme

The Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL) welcomes applications for self-financed research stays in European law, including EU constitutional law and governance, fundamental rights and judicial protection, the external relations of the EU, internal market, competition law, commercial and consumer law, migration policy, environmental protection and sustainability, as well as the European Convention on Human Rights, comparative law, and the history of European law. The Centre’s guest programme is open to scholars and practitioners from Europe and beyond, with the aim to enhance academic exchange and international collaboration.

During their stay, visiting researchers benefit from full access to the Centre’s library, including its extensive electronic resources, and the professional support from its specialized librarians. Furthermore, all guests have the opportunity to participate in all the LCEL activities, such as presentations and workshops, and to exchange knowledge with the academic staff of the Centre and of the University’s Law Department.

Additionally, the LCEL organises guest fora twice a month, where invited researchers can present and discuss their research.

Application Guidelines

To apply for the guest programme, visiting PhD students or researcher must be enrolled or be employed at an institution other than the University of Luxembourg during the whole period of the research (self-employment or support solely through a scholarship is not eligible). The minimum stay is two weeks.

Application should include:

  • a brief statement of motivation and proposed dates of the stay
  • a CV indicating permanent address
  • an outline of the proposed research project
  • for doctoral students: one recommendation letter of the supervisor
  • a list of publications

The application must be sent to lcel.ext.staff@uni.lu; the evaluation process can take up to one month.

Scholarship Opportunities

Moreover, twice a year, the LCEL publishes a call for scholarship to support early career researchers for stays of up to two months.
