Bruno BIAZATTI

Current position

Bruno de Oliveira Biazatti is a Doctoral Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL). He is also a Ph.D. candidate on international law at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Aziz Tuffi Saliba. He teaches international criminal law at the University of Luxembourg.

Research

Bruno’s doctoral research explores peripheral agency in international law-making, with emphasis on the work of the International Law Commission. His work has appeared in leading journals, including the European Journal of International Law and the Leiden Journal of International Law. He also published multiple times in influential international law blogs, such as EJIL:Talk! and Opinio Juris.

Awards/Distinctions

Bruno received the scholarship of The Hague Academy of International Law to attend the 2020 Winter Courses on International Law and the Directed Studies. He received multiple awards by representing UFMG at Jessup Moot Court.

Work experience

Prior to joining the LCEL, he was research fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, in the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution (2021-2023). He was also rapporteur of the Oxford Reports on International Law – International Criminal Law (Oxford University Press, 2021-2023). He was legal adviser at the Brazilian Supreme Court (2018) and at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations, in New York (2017). He was teaching assistant in multiple international law courses at UFMG. He was a researcher at the Brazilian International Law Center (CEDIN) (2015-2017).

Educational background

Bruno holds a Master’s degree in international law from UFMG (2019), where he also obtained his Bachelor’s degree in law (2016). He was shortlisted for the Barão do Rio Branco Award (top 1% LLB student).
