Guest programme
The Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL), an Interdisciplinary Centre of the University Luxembourg and being the legal successor of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg, is offering self-financed research stays in fields of European law. The main focus lies on European banking and financial law, procedural law with focus on comparative, transnational and international legal research and in international public law. The Centre’s guest programme is open to scholars and practitioners from Europe and overseas with the aim to enhance exchange and international collaboration.
Apart from its extensive library and an inspiring group of international researchers at the LCEL, Luxembourg is the perfect place for legal research because it is the judicial capital of the European Union. Home to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and other EU institutions, Luxembourg is also in close proximity to the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg), the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal court and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in Den Hague.
All visiting researchers have the possibility to use the Centre’s library to pursue their research, professional support from the specialized librarians and access to the extensive e-resources included. Furthermore, the LCEL accommodates a personal workspace for the visiting researchers during their stay. Every guest is welcome to participate in our activities, such as presentations and workshops and to exchange knowledge with the academic staff of the Centre and of the University’s Law Department, with its high international ranking.
On an ad hoc basis, the LCEL organizes guest fora, where invited researchers have the opportunity to present their research.
In order to participate in the guest programme, a visiting PhD Student/visiting Researcher must be enrolled or be employed in another institution other than the University of Luxembourg. The whole period of the research stay must be covered. Self-employment or sole scholarship cannot be taken into account.
Currently we offer self-financed research stays until the end of December 2025. The minimum stay is two weeks.
Please address your application, indicating shortly your motivation and the envisaged period, via email to lcel.ext.staff@uni.lu .
