Study Programmes Master in Physics

Study and career opportunities

The programme is ideally suited for students envisioning a career in academic research or R&D in our key areas (Photovoltaics and energy materials ; Quantum science and technology; Soft and living matter; Machine learning for physics). Universities, research centres, and materials-oriented companies in Luxembourg and worldwide are natural outlets. The general analytical and problem-solving skills acquired can lead to other careers requiring complex data analysis. Graduates can also find career opportunities in teaching and outreach.

    Learning Outcomes

    • Broadly understand several key areas of general physics and advanced condensed matter physics
    • Broadly understand the operational principles and performance of key physics instrumentation and technologies relevant to their chosen specialisation
    • Evaluate and analyse scientific data using analytical and numerical methods
    • Formalise a practical problem and solve it using quantitative analytical or numerical tools
    • Assess the validity of data generated by computers or physics instrumentation including the estimation of error sources
    • Adopt a general critical-thinking attitude towards data and the scientific literature
