Research Group Nursing Sciences

Our research

The Nursing Sciences team at the University of Luxembourg conducts a broad and dynamic programme of research with strong clinical relevance and societal impact. Grounded in the nursing sciences, our work spans the full continuum of care from prevention and treatment to rehabilitation, long-term support, and care during progressive or life-limiting conditions. Our collective research interests encompass key thematic areas, including paediatric palliative care, quality of life, ethical practice, health equity, and mentoring in nursing education.

Strengthening Nursing Science through leadership and collaboration

Led by Prof. Marie Friedel, the team integrates patient-centred and family-centred approaches with robust theoretical and empirical frameworks. Their work is grounded in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, often exploring the complex interplay between physical health, psychological well-being, and socio-cultural dynamics. Core research topics include paediatric palliative care, spiritual care in education, patient safety, cancer prevention, functional mobility in Parkinson’s disease, the psychosocial impact of female genital mutilation, and strategies to strengthen retention within the nursing workforce. The team engages in extensive international and cross-border collaborations and is deeply engaged in interdisciplinary research, maintaining strong links with researchers in the social sciences, humanities, and related fields across the University.
