Between 2008 and 2020, Rui worked in clinical practice as a Radiographer in different hospitals and private clinics in the southern region of Portugal (Algarve). During this period, he developed solid experience in conventional radiography, imaging-guided procedures in the operating theatre, computed tomography, and bone densitometry. From 2009 to 2019, he served as Invited Lecturer at the University of Algarve. In 2020, he was appointed Assistant Professor in the same university, where he worked until 2025. Throughout this academic stage, Rui assumed multiple institutional responsibilities, such as serving as a member of the Pedagogical Council, member of the Technical-Scientific Council, and as Head of the Radiology Department (2024/2025). He also coordinated the Peer Mentoring Program directed to undergraduate students, was responsible for the radiology laboratories, and integrated the Rectorate-appointed Working Group for Pedagogical Innovation and New Technologies. In addition, he served as member of the Editorial Board of the University of Algarve Press (UAlg Editora), contributing to educational and scientific publishing activities.
