In the frame of the Greater Region “Wood Added Value Enabler” (WAVE) project, Prof. Christoph Odenbreit and Dr. Teodora Bogdan from the ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction moderated a round table in which experts on construction sector were invited to answers questions on the steel timber hybrid concepts.

As part of the W.A.V.E. project, the Luxembourg Wood Cluster, managed by Luxinnovation GIE, held an expert workshop on innovation approaches in sustainable construction on 5 November in Leudelange. The event was organised in collaboration with the project’s Belgian and German consortium partners.

The workshop brought together leading professionals from the construction sector to explore cutting-edge developments in sustainable building, with a particular focus on hybrid timber construction.Participants were introduced to two pioneering projects that demonstrated the use of wood-steel and wood-concrete composite beams in static timber construction. These innovations highlighted the potential of combining traditional and modern materials to improve structural performance and sustainability.

The event also featured a technical site visit to the ALLEGRA and WOODEN construction projects, offering attendees a closer look at sustainable building solutions in practice.

A key highlight of the day was a round table discussion moderated by Prof. Christoph Odenbreit and Dr. Teodora Bogdan from the ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction. Experts from across the construction sector shared their insights on the challenges and opportunities of steel-timber hybrid concepts. Representatives from leading industrial companies—including CDCL, Iko Real Estate, OBG Groupe, Schroeder & Associés, Steffen Holzbau, Holzbau Henz, Ney & Partners, and Art & Build Architectes—joined the round table to discuss their experiences and expectations for the future of sustainable construction.
