In December 2024, the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) proudly celebrated the graduation of its students on Belval campus, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey. The event recognised the hard work, perseverance, and dedication each student had demonstrated throughout their studies. Congratulations to all the graduates for reaching this important achievement and for the bright futures that lie ahead. 🎓 BACHELOR’S DEGREE CEREMONY 🎓
On December 10, 2024, 148 students received their Bachelor’s degrees in the following disciplines:

- Bachelor in Physics
- Bachelor en Sciences de la Vie – Filière Biologie
The ceremony was moderated by Prof. Pascal Bouvry, Dean of the Faculty, and began with an inspiring welcome speech by Prof. Philippe Hiligsmann, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs. Dr. Ann Kiefer delivered a keynote titled “La force motrice des scientifiques”, which resonated deeply with the audience.
This year, six outstanding students were honoured for their exceptional academic performance:
- Julien MERSCH received the Prix de la meilleure mobilité “2 Frënn vun der FSTM”;
- William SIMONS was awarded the Prix des Ingénieurs et Scientifiques du Luxembourg;
- Camal TAHIREDDINE earned the Prix Bachelor de la Société Mathématique du Luxembourg;
- Sara-Elena VATAVU was recognised with both the Prix Zonta Club Luxembourg and the Prix Portabella de l’Excellence AcadĂ©mique;
- Dan Joseph HEISER was given the Prix Portabella de la Mobilité;
- Linda SEELEN was honoured with the Prix Dr. Jean-Claude Loutsch d’Excellence AcadĂ©mique, Prix du meilleur Bachelor en MĂ©decine.
🎓 MASTER’S DEGREE CEREMONY 🎓
Later the same day, 182 students graduated with their Master’s degrees in a wide array of fields:

The ceremony, moderated by Prof. Bradley Ladewig, Vice-Dean of the Faculty, began with a warm welcome from Prof. Simone Niclou, Vice-Rector for Research, who congratulated the graduates on their remarkable achievements. Attendees were then inspired by a thought-provoking keynote delivered by Philippe Linster, CEO of House of Startups, on the subject of start-ups and innovation.
Five students were recognised for their outstanding academic performance:
- José Francisco Brás Loureiro received the Best Average Grade award, “2 Frënn vun der FSTM”;
- Tom Schmit was honored with the Germain Dondelinger Award;
- Julien Cornelius earned the Lanners Prize;
- Beatrice Bach was awarded the Luxembourg Mathematical Society Master Student Prize;
- Maikel Da Rocha Faria received the OAI Award.
Following the awards, the graduates were all called on stage to receive their diplomas, under the applause of the audience, their proud families, and friends.
🎓 SPECIALISED MEDECINE CEREMONY 🎓
On December 11, 2024, the Faculty celebrated the graduation of 12 students from the Formation Spécifique en Médecine Générale and Master en Médecine Générale programmes.
The ceremony was moderated by Prof. Pascal Bouvry, Dean of the Faculty, and started with a heartfelt welcome by Prof. Simone Niclou, Vice-Rector for Research. This was followed by an inspiring address from Martine Deprez, Minister for Health and Social Security. The celebrations continued as Nico Haas, along with Siggy Rausch and Patrick Tabouring, MĂ©decins Coordinateurs, took the floor to share a reflection on the history of medical training in Luxembourg over the past 20 years.
Following the keynote, it was time for the moment every student had been eagerly awaiting: the conferment of diplomas. One by one, graduates were called to the stage to receive their diplomas, each being warmly congratulated by the audience. Special recognition was given to Tom SchlĂĽter who received the “Bourse d’études de promotion de la mĂ©decine gĂ©nĂ©rale Docteur Robert Kraus” for his exceptional academic performance.
The event concluded with a thoughtful and encouraging address by Stéphanie Obertin, Minister for Higher Education and Research, who congratulated the graduates on their significant achievement and wished them success in their future careers.
