On 5 October, Prof. Bradley Ladewig, Full Professor of Engineering and holder of the Paul Wurth Chair in the Faculty of Science Technology and Medicine, talked about climate change and how to reach Net Zero.
After introducing himself, he went over his academic path and his several moves around the UK, Germany, France and Australia. Bradley specifically thanked Paul Wurth, part of SMS group, sponsor of the Paul Wurth Chair in Energy Process Engineering.
The talk was presented in three key sections, covering the basic science and projected impacts of climate change, how the pathway to Net Zero is critically important and requires rapid, deep and immediate cuts to greenhouse has emissions. Finally he presented green hydrogen as one technological solution that is particular relevant to decarbonizing the fertilizer, chemical and steel industries.
“We need to reach Net Zero through rapid, deep and immediate greenhouse gas emission cuts if we are to stabilize the climate at 1.5 or 2.0 degrees above the pre-industrial average”
Participants gathered after the lecture to discuss and meet the lecturer around a friendly drink.
