On 30 November 2023, engineers from the Greater Region met together at the University of Luxembourg in order to create a platform for exchanging experience and knowledge about lean construction. Around 30 participants from architect, engineering and consultancy companies attended the meeting.

“Lean Construction is the application of the lean management philosophy to the construction sector. Studies show that the proportion of productive work in the construction sector is very low compared with other economic sectors. Lean Construction is a tried and tested method – also in Luxembourg – for achieving the optimisation required for the construction of works by avoiding unproductive work”, explains Michael Scheuern, senior lecturer and study director of the Bachelor in Engineering – European Construction Management.

“At present, there is no platform for exchanging experience and knowledge about lean construction in Luxembourg, nor the skills for research projects. The creation of a working group of this kind is therefore in the interests of the construction sector in Luxembourg but also of our training programmes in the field of construction management. That is why we organised this meeting together with the German Lean Construction Institute (GCLI)”, continues Michael.

During the meeting, discussions focused on some applications, on the advantages of this method and on the challenges currently facing the construction sector. Various ideas emerged from the discussions and regular meetings are planned in the future to collaborate on this topic.
