Research scientist Teodora Bogdan  from the ArcelorMittal Chair of Steel Construction was invited to speak at the Special Seismic Workshop: Earthquakes & Tall Buildings during the international conference of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH 2024) in Istanbul on 18 & 19 April 2024. The programme specifically focused on international best practices for seismic design, with particular emphasis on the performance of existing buildings.

Teodora seized the opportunity to showcase her significant accomplishments as a senior researcher at ArcelorMittal Global R&D, specifically in the field of earthquake engineering. The main subjects discussed were the dynamic behaviour of composite columns reinforced with multiple steel profiles known as “Megacolumns”, the adoption of high-strength steel in design codes in countries prone to earthquakes, and the extension of the existing American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) prequalification limits for reduced beam sections in the American design code AISC 358-2022 “Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic Applications”.
