Organised by the Department of Engineering (DoE), the conference “Smart Grids: A New Energy Paradigm” was held on 14 October 2022.
Guest speaker Prof. Dr. Mohamed Trabelsi from the Kuwait College of Science and Technology talked about smart grid and how smart grid technologies can be used to facilitate integration of renewable energies into power grids. These technologies include many tools and systems for network management such as smart metering, energy storage, market models, interconnected microgrids, advanced power electronic converters, controllable loads, etc. The common thread between these advanced and multidisciplinary concepts is the AI-based approach.
The conference took place as part of a new concept of education based on learning-by-doing and on bringing education closer not only to companies but also to research. This concept encourages the development of innovative ideas and creates a certain synergy between theory and new technologies to solve scientific issues using practical projects.
Within the framework of this concept, a series of conferences on “Artificial Intelligence and its application in engineering” have been planned by the integration of AI in different fields of engineering (DoE). These conferences serve as meeting points between bachelor, master and PhD students, postdocs, professors and professionals, to discuss the Department of Engineering.
The first in the series was a considerable success, the number of participants exceeded 60.
