Cancer research in the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine (DLSM) has received an encouraging new boost through a three-year pledge from 51 Club Éislek, who will contribute €30,000 to the University’s recently established Cancer Research Fund. The commitment reflects the Club’s dedication to supporting research efforts that deepen our understanding of cancer and contribute to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches.
The pledge builds on an ongoing relationship between 51 Club Éislek and DLSM. The Club first supported cancer research at the University by contributing €25,000 to Prof. Elisabeth Letellier’s Molecular Disease Mechanisms research group, which investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying colorectal cancer and its resistance to therapies.
Their renewed engagement highlights a shared commitment to advancing fundamental insights and translational approaches in cancer research — efforts that may ultimately enable earlier detection, more refined treatment strategies, and improved patient outcomes.
Earlier this year, the University introduced a series of thematic funds designed to broaden opportunities for philanthropic participation. These funds grow through contributions of all sizes, enabling supporters to participate at a level that suits them. As gifts accumulate, they create a meaningful pool of resources that can be directed toward key research priorities. Donors who commit to sustained, multi-year support are recognised as Champions, acknowledging the stabilising role such contributions play in the University’s long-term research ambitions. With its new pledge, 51 Club Éislek becomes the first-ever Champion for the Cancer Research Fund.
The University expresses its sincere appreciation to 51 Club Éislek for its continued trust and for its valued partnership in advancing cancer research in Luxembourg.
