The inaugural lecture of Prof. Franck Sueur entitled “Transferring properties from one linear operator to another” will take place on 29 April 2025 on Belval Campus.
Presentation
Linear operators frequently appear in various areas of mathematics, ranging from algebra to PDEs passing through functional analysis. In this lecture, I will present a general method for transferring, between two operators, some properties pertaining to the solvability of their respective equations, their controllability, as well as the qualitative properties of their solutions and their approximations. This method relies on identifying some common points between the two operators at stake, in terms of a combination of a few specific identities which also involve some auxiliary operators.
Biography
Franck Sueur leads the research group on the analysis and controllability of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) at the University of Luxembourg, inside the department of mathematics. After a PhD completed in Marseille in 2006, he has been hired as an associate professor at Sorbonne Université and then as a full professor at the university of Bordeaux between 2014 and 2024.
