The Inaugural Lecture of Prof. Rui Pereira de Almeida entitled “Quality and safety in medical imaging: Advancing standards in radiology departments and radiography practice” will take place on 13 April 2026 on Belval Campus.
Presentation
Medical imaging is central to contemporary healthcare, supporting screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient follow-up. In increasingly complex and technology-driven radiology departments, safe, effective, and patient-centred care depends not only on technical performance, but also on strong quality management, sound clinical governance, and continuous improvement. This lecture will explore how quality and safety can advance standards in radiology departments and strengthen radiography practice, highlighting the WHO dimensions of high-quality care and the radiographer’s contribution to safer imaging pathways, better decision-making, and quality-oriented practice. It will also reflect on the role of education and academic-clinical collaboration in preparing future radiographers for excellence in medical imaging services.
