Dr. Guendalina Palmirotta, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Paderborn, earned her PhD in Mathematics at the University of Luxembourg in 2021. Passionate about sharing her journey, she has always aimed to inspire girls and women to explore the world of mathematics.

For Guendalina, mathematics is much more than numbers, formulas, or theorems. “It’s a key to understand and try to explain real-life problems and the mysteries of our universe,” she explains. This curiosity is what first drew her to study mathematics at Uni.lu, and it continues to shape her work everyday.

She shares her passion with students, colleagues, and the wider public through lectures and outreach activities. Her advice for anyone curious about mathematics is simple but powerful: “If you’re interested in mathematics, go for it!

The logical thinking and rigor of mathematicians are needed everywhere. If you’re interested in mathematics, go for it!”

As part of the GirlsinSciTech campaign, each month, a new testimonial video of our panelists will be released. Follow the initiative to learn more about their inspiring stories, and together, let’s motivate more girls to get into STEM!

Next video will be online on World Computer Literacy Day on 2 December and will feature Nicole Wagner, Director of Product & Engineering at McKinsey & Company. She graduated with a Bachelor in Computer Science in 2016.
